Weekend Loves

We hope you’re all having a nice, relaxing Sunday!

Over the weekend we often list a few vintage pieces in our shop that don’t really fit into whatever theme we might be planning at the time. If you follow us on Facebook or Twitter, you’ll still get a heads up that there is something new to check out, but we rarely bother with them on the blog. This weekend, however, we’ve listed two pieces that we really wanted to keep for ourselves! We love them so much that we thought they deserved a little extra attention…

Edwardian Era Fashion

Good morning! Did you have a good weekend? Score any estate sale finds perhaps?!

Just one-half of Lise + Katina here today, “Lise” if you will. As you might have noticed from our About page, the history and personal stories behind the vintage pieces that we stock are what drives me.  Whenever possible I like to know who owned our vintage loves and what significance they had to that person – but even if I don’t have a link to the original owner, I often do quite a bit of research about the era in which the piece was made. History shapes fashion more than we may sometimes realize, and there are plenty of stories to explain the reasoning behind dress cuts, popular colors, materials used, and so on. Fashion history is definitely something I can geek out over for hours at a time! :)

Take this brooch, for example. (Click the picture to view it in our shop, with more photos)

Art Deco Bakelite – Loves of the Week

Happy Friday to all of you vintage lovers out there!

This week we are bringing you a new regular blog segment that we call ‘Loves of the Week’. It’s easy to get addicted to browsing Etsy listings (seriously, we’re often up until midnight clickety-clicking and filling up our favorites list!), and we find so many gorgeous pieces that are too good not to share. Every Friday we will round up our favorite pieces within a theme.

We’re starting our first Loves of the Week with Art Deco style Bakelite. Please feel free to leave us a comment and tell us what you’d love to see in a future theme!

Spring Whites on Etsy

Bianca Shoes

This gallery contains 5 photos.

We had fun putting together our week of white accessories for Spring, for you! Now that everything is live in our shop, head on over to see the full info on each of them!

Spring Whites

Spring might not be in the air yet, but it is just around the corner, and our daydreams are definitely occupied with itty-bitty blooms and blue skies! We thought we’d try to get you in the mood too – with a week full of springtime accessories!

In selecting our pieces for this week we were inspired by the cheerful spring runway trends that feature shades of whites played up by pops of neon and bright pastels.

Silver Earrings

We know we said we would only be announcing our listings by Facebook this week, but this one deserves it’s own post.

This pair of earrings is one of those things that one of us falls in love with right away and wants to keep for ourselves, but in the end it turns out that it’s too wonderful not to share!

Xochi Earrings

The perfectly imperfect little sterling screw-backs are from the 1930’s-1940’s and were handcrafted in Mexico.

Xochi Earrings

We found them in the house of a woman who apparently had an old steamer trunk in her attic filled with items from the era. She had great taste, and we were sad to have to leave behind a number of lovely pieces of jewelry, and unique vintage housewares. We actually found our near-perfect condition “Madison” Coat in the same house. It’s amazing to us that someone could have a trunk full of treasures in their house, lovingly stored for so long. Were they forgotten about? Were they being saved for someone, or just for some special day? How long ago had they been packed up neatly and left on their own?

There is no way we can know the history behind such things, but we are certainly thankful to the woman who valued them enough to pack them away for us to enjoy years later.

You can view our “Xochi” earrings in our shop today.

New season, new listings!

Japanese Garden September

Well, it’s officially autumn! Here in the Seattle area it went from sunny and 75° one day to cloudy and windy the next, just like that. We might be wishing we had gotten a little more time at the beach this year, but we’re also both ridiculously excited for our favorite holiday – Halloween!

We’re excited to get you all ready for fall too, so we’re putting out some new items in our shop to help you brave frosty mornings and breezy afternoons. No sneak-peek pictures this time, we’re giving you hints instead!

Monday: This piece has a little bit of everything we love for fall, but the best part is the row of carved plastic buttons in a marbled cream. 9/19 – It’s a 1950’s tweed coat!

Tuesday: A rare find; ideal for fireside snuggles. 9/20 – A mid-century German knit sweater!

Wednesday: Our mid-week listing features two luxurious components – the softest faux leather we have ever felt, and gorgeous marbled tortoiseshell Lucite! 9/21 – An easy to wear 1960’s handbag!

Thursday: Neon accessories are everywhere for fall and next spring! Our cheery bright item will fit in nicely with your earthy autumn tones as well. 9/22 – Extra large hot orange clip-ons!

Friday: A classic piece that every girl should have in their closet, at an absolute steal of a price. 9/23 – An incredible Camel Hair Trench!

Think you can guess what we’ve got for you? You’ll just have to keep an eye on our shop this week to find out for sure! And of course, if you like us on Facebook you’ll be able to see our alerts when we post our new pieces.

(P.S. we took our picture at the Japanese Garden at the Seattle Arboretum. You can feed some monstrous koi there!)

Happy fall!

Loves: calivintage

I just stumbled upon calivintage, and I could not be more in awe. This girl truly knows how to style her incredible vintage finds without looking like she’s wearing a costume. Her perfect attention to detail in all of her looks has me scrolling back through pages of posts, pretty much drooling over that wardrobe! An absolute inspiration – check her out, I promise, you’ll love.

Now I have enough inspiration to get me through the whole weekend. <3

Shopping Day

Want to know what we’re busy doing almost every weekend? Shopping at estate sales, of course!

Our selections for Lise + Katina are chosen discerningly at a wide variety of sources to ensure that we see the full range of what’s out there! However, estate sales are our favorite places to find the best quality vintages loves (with the best stories). This is where we most often stumble upon true gems that have been meticulously stored or cared for over decades by owners who loved them just as much as we know their new owners will!

Here is a little peek into what this weekend was like for us:
