Happy Friday to all of you vintage lovers out there!
This week we are bringing you a new regular blog segment that we call ‘Loves of the Week’. It’s easy to get addicted to browsing Etsy listings (seriously, we’re often up until midnight clickety-clicking and filling up our favorites list!), and we find so many gorgeous pieces that are too good not to share. Every Friday we will round up our favorite pieces within a theme.
We’re starting our first Loves of the Week with Art Deco style Bakelite. Please feel free to leave us a comment and tell us what you’d love to see in a future theme!
For those unfamiliar, Art Deco is an art style that was popular in the 1920’s and 1930’s, and gave way to true modern styles. It is characterized by its use of straight, geometric shapes, and can be seen on much of the jewelry, furniture, and architecture of the times.
Bakelite is an early plastic that was used during much of the first half of the 20th century. It comes in many colors and often has lovely marbled coloring. Collectors give the colors delicious sounding names such as ‘pumpkin’, ‘buttercup’, and ‘apple juice’. Bakelite is highly coveted among vintage fashion collectors, and is found in all types of jewelry and accessories, including coat buttons and purse clasps; as well as home accessories.
Combine Art Deco style with beautiful Bakelite, an you will often have an incredible and timeless piece!
Feeling in love? Inspired? Swooning just a skosh? Us too.
Tell us all about it in the comments ;)
