Summer brights

We’re heading away from the blog world again for the weekend (but don’t worry, orders from our shop will still be processed). We might be finding some extra time to soak up some sun too – it finally feels like summer in Seattle! In the spirit of the season, here is a sneak peek of some summer shades, coming to our shop shortly!

We’ll see you again next week!

New Friends

It’s Friday, and we have doubled up on the items we’re listing today before we run away for the weekend!

Today we’re featuring brooches with an animal theme.

First is a truly unique gold-tone brooch shaped like a two-headed eagle. This piece is as mysterious as it looks – we haven’t been able to find anything quite like it!

Then we have a pair of mice – a set of scatter pins from the 1950’s. Often pins like these would have been set with faux pearl cabochons, but ours have lovely foil backed stones that shimmer from purple to green to blue and give an effect like dichrotic art glass.

We hope you’re as charmed by the character of these pieces as we are!

Layer it on

I stumbled across this Stylecaster editorial this morning, and I’ve been feeling inspired ever since.

Absolutely incredible styling, blending amazing vintage pieces with new Miu Miu, Alberta Ferretti, and Louis Vuitton. I wish I had, well, any of these pieces in my possession! However, I will be spending the rest of the afternoon in my closet, layering styles and daydreaming.

Fleur

Another new piece added to the shop this morning – the tiniest little bar pin with three simple flowers.

The littlest details in an outfit can say a lot, and this is just the perfect pin to add interest without overpowering the rest of your look. A bigger statement could also be made by grouping this little brooch with clusters of tiny scatter pins for an effect that is truly one-of-a-kind.

Enjoy!

Zinnia

Another new item added to our shop today!

A lovely little handkerchief with a pretty floral print.

We find vintage handkerchiefs everywhere we go, but coming across ones that are both in perfect condition and have truly interesting details happens much less frequently. We love having lots of old-fashioned hankies around the house for creating spontaneous vignettes, tucking into our pockets, or using for craft projects. A few of our fav DIYs from the web: Save the dates, handkerchief pillow, this elegantly scattered table runner, and this why-didn’t-we-think-of-that easy art wall.

If you use one of our hankies for a DIY project, we would love to see the result! Please email us your photos!

Trifari

Hi there! This morning Katina and I are adding one more lovely item to our shop.

This chunky, plastic, beaded Trifari necklace from the 1960’s is the perfect length for layering with other styles to create an eclectic mix of vintage and modern. In fact, one of the things we love about the Trifari brand is that most of their pieces are so interesting and stylish, while still retaining a modern feeling, even decades later. It’s tough for a fashion accessory to be both retro and timeless, but many Trifari items are just that.

Lucky for you, we have a few more Trifari pieces for sale: this pair of classic earrings, and another little surprise coming to our shop next week!

Monday loves!

Happy Monday everyone, we hope you had a good weekend! As for us, we sourced some awesome vintage pieces that we are very excited to be showcasing soon. More about that later!

Today we have two new items in our shop for you!

As far as we’re concerned, it is still definitely summer (despite the thunderstorms outside of our windows!). But if you’re thinking ahead, today’s vintage loves are great fall transitional pieces. A pair of clustered, beaded earrings in autumnal tones, made in West Germany, and a bronze colored belt buckle, made in the 1970’s, that would fit in perfectly with this year’s southwestern trends.

Please have a look, and tell us what you would wear them with!

Golden Afternoon

Happy Friday everyone!

Katina and I are away from the blog for the weekend – but you know we’ll still be working hard to find more vintage loves for you! We’ll be back on Monday, but for now here’s a sneak peek of some of the new items coming to our shop next week! Notice a theme?

Have a great weekend!

Daylight Savings

As you know, our Etsy shop went live yesterday. Today we’d like to talk a little bit more about two of our favorite items!

We are featuring two pocket watches from the 1950’s: a Westclox “Dax” and a Westclox “Bull’s Eye”. Watches like these were made throughout the 20th century as “dollar watches” – watches that were so cheap that anyone could afford one. These two are both nickel plated, with plastic crystals and metal faces; both with snap backs and pendant style loops. They are both mechanical, and work quite well! Vintage pocket watches are very popular lately with collectors and crafters alike, and it’s easy to see why – with even the cheapest models there is a certain charm and character that modern watches just don’t have.

Many people collect these for display, or for parts. However, we always love to wear our vintage finds! Certainly these would look great strung on a chain as intended, but right now we are obsessed with the contrast between a classic metal watch, and a fun or funky ribbon necklace!

For this style we used a thin, silk scarf belt, but you could create any combination of looks from different thicknesses and patterns of ribbons and scarves. Layering with other silver-toned necklaces finishes off the look (We used a vintage nickle-plated beaded chain). If you give it a try, please send us your pictures! We would LOVE to see how you style it!
