Space Dye – Loves of the Week

Both of us at L + K have been crazy over “Space Dye” as of late. Be it a chunky knit with a southwestern theme, or fine, delicate, and brightly colored, we have been clicking that little red heart a lot on Etsy!

Space Dyeing is a trend that came about in the early 1970’s, and is simply the process of dying yarn multiple colors at different intervals so that when the yarn is used to knit or crochet, the finished product has a variegated pattern. It is a technique that is still very popular today.  There is something about the original 1970’s styles, however, that get us all excited – in particular, the brand that became known for their beautiful uses of the trend – Missoni. While there are some lovely dresses and crazy leggings out there to be found, the majority of the styles are wrap sweaters or pull-overs, which make for great casual vintage pieces.

Cozy. Colorful. Perfectly wearable today without looking like a flashback.

We love.
